If you’ve visited the site in the past I’m sure you’ve noticed we’ve got a new look. On a whole I personally think it’s a step up, visually, and from a practical stand point the software the site now uses is much simpler and more convenient to manage. Hopefully you’ll see the site continue to grow and become more useful to members of our community.
For anyone who’s curious, the website is now built using WordPress, which has a very large user base and a large community of independent developers (myself included) building plugins and themes to enhance the basic software. The old site was built using Joomla!, which in theory has a much broader application, but just didn’t seem to fit the needs of the site and in my opinion was a bit too cumbersome to use.
As you can see, the site currently has articles such as this one, a local weather report to the right, links to our forums (and eventually possibly other useful pages) on the left, as well as a selection of site navigation menu’s such as archives and categories. I’m hoping to eventually provide links to local news stories as well, and I was hoping that members of the community might provide their own suggestions for the site as well. If you’d like to do that please visit our forums (register if you haven’t already) and post in this thread.
The board of directors believes that communication is important, and so we highly encourage our community to begin to actively participate in the forums. I’m hoping to write a simple tutorial to help people get started doing just that, and in using the forums, so stay tuned for that. Please note that the most effective way of having your concerns addressed remains calling Shea Management, however the website provides an additional avenue to get your voice heard.
