As it turns out, we checked with WSCC, and they’ve been flushing fire hydrants in the area. This causes sediment had been resting in base of the pipes to get stirred up, primarily iron and manganese, which leads to the discoloration. The water is perfectly safe for cooking, drinking, and bathing, however it might be best to wait to wash your whites until the discoloration has passed, which should be relatively soon (if it hasn’t already).
